ANTI-DIABETIC POTENTIAL OF HYPHAENE THEBAICA FRUIT IN STREPTOZOTOCIN-INDUCED DIABETIC RATS

Complications of Diabetes mellitus caused by persistent hyperglycemia is a challenge in management the disease as synthetic drugs used are often expensive, specific and associated with side effects. This study was aimed to determine anti-diabetic potential mesocarp extract Hyphaene thebaica fruit streptozotocin-induced Diabetic rats. The hypoglycemic effects methanol, aqueous ethylacetate oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) were determined followed on body weight, blood glucose, liver kidney. Glucose fed rats 30 minutes after pretreatment extract, measurement levels at 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 240 assess effect extracts loaded animals. also divided into six groups treated daily intragastric tube for four weeks. result revealed more OGTT than other extracts. There significant (p < 0.05) improvement weight administered 400 mg 200 mg/kg decrease AST, GGT, creatinine, urea levels. Conclusively, H. can be diabetes evident its hepato-renal function.
